I am going to start something brand new and very different tomorrow. After spending more years than I care to remember working for large corporations, I have set up my own consulting organisation and dare to impart my experience with Start up, Small and Medium sized organisations.
Keeping with a musical theme, I was reminded by the words of Manchester poet, Ian Brown as I move from one world into another:
The gold road’s sure a long road
Winds on through the hills for fifteen days
The pack on my back is aching
The straps seem to cut me like a knife
I’m no clown I won’t back down
I don’t need you to tell me what’s going down
Down down down down da down down down
I have had an enjoyable corporate career to date and very fortunate to have worked for some great leaders, and some of the industry’s truly dire managers. The former are in a small pool, the latter, sadly ubiquitous. I have learned from “both sides of the house”. How to do things and also how not to do things. In an era where it is estimated that more than 50% of sales people will not achieve quota, there is, more than ever, a strong correlation between revenue earning success and the quality of that organisation’s leadership.
Over the next couple of days I will focus on what makes a great sales leader. In the meantime, wish me luck!
